The branch that bears fruit

In today's Gospel, Jesus speaks about branches bearing fruit or not.

As a branch, he says that we can only bear fruit if we remain in him, if we listen to His word.

In the book I have just finished reading, "Thinking in Bets", the author compares our past to the trunk of a tree.

The branches are possible futures. The bigger the branch, the more likely for a possible future to happen.

The spot where the trunk and the branches meet is our present.

In a way, it's important to remain "in the trunk", to know yourself and be honest about it.

This might be the only way for a branch to bear fruit, and for a possible future to happen.
