Today's first reading from the first letter of St. John is about love.
The main point is that God is love, so anybody who is in God also loves.
God also shows His love first by sending his only Son who died for our sins.
If and when we love one another, God is in us.
What does 'loving one another' mean then?
Loving our family, friends, neighbors, etc?
What is the extent of one's love?
God loves us, then we must love one another or else God won't be in us?
This sounds a bit like pressure to love everybody no matter what.
It might sound like we have to love regardless of who is in front of us, almost in a robotic and automatic way.
Somebody is in front of you, then you must love.
Reality is not as simple in most cases.
Also, this approach might lead us to miss the person that is in front of us, another human being with her struggle and imperfections.
Love just because God is love is not enough, in my opinion.
Acknowledge that the person in front of you, like yourself, is full of imperfections and insecurities, and is doing her best given her limitations, that in my opinion is the way to love.
Love through acceptance, love through acknowledgement, love through seeing the person in front of you for who she is, this the way to love, which in turn resembles the way God loves us.
